Quote: Not sure which dealership you use, but I would watch out. Either they truly do not know anything about winter tires or they want to make more money at your expense.

You can use the base RX wheels,. LEXUS canada orders the winter tire rim package with 18" rims, go to lexus.ca and check the 2017 accessories.

The 18" lexus accessory rim package OEM, plus tpms sensors, installation, Michener tires, programming should all be around $2700 plus taxes.
When I got a set of refinished OEM 18" rims, after market TPMS, set of tires on sale (buy 3 get one free) It costs only half of that price. I keep a record of
TPMS id. numbers for summer and winter. After tire change I run TIS with my laptop connected to OBD II port to load TPMS id. numbers. For about 300.00
TPMS trigger and Ateq Quick set tool will do it too. TIS and usb-obd II cable costs like 20.00. I never go to dealer for tire service. I go to a shop specializing on tires.
I go to a dealer for routine service or warranty work. I have all the basic tools, good floor jack, air tools in my garage. There are many dorks at any dealership, BMW,
Acura, Audi, Lexus... everywhere. Their WEAKEST knowledge is basics on electronics stuffs.

Tpms
Quote: This may be a dumb question but a local dealer told me the Gen4 RX had tire specific TPMS that projected actual tire pressure by tire vs the Gen3 that just had a warning light if any tire was low. The ability to see actual tire pressure is a big plus because you can detect a slow leak much sooner than with the idiot light. From this discussion it seems that the Gen4 is like the Gen3. If that's the case you can buy a reset tool and use aftermarket sensors then switch between Summer and winter tires. I've never heard of cloning the factory sensors, not saying you can't. On my Gen 3 I use a reset tool. I call BS on the statement that aftermarket TPMS are not high quality. I bought mine from Tire Rack and checked out reviews first and they work great 6 years later and counting. Some TPMS are made by a Toyota TPMS supplier.
On the sensors for my GMC Denali I bought a Bosch Trigger Tool and can reset between summer and winter even easier than the Lex. On the RX I have to plug into the OBD and actually change the sensor ID's in the vehicle. With a trigger tool I move from tire to tire and reset each one by tire location. Reset is also done when rotating tire since the location has changed. But GM has programmed the process into the vehicle. The Lexus dealer wanted $100 each change or $200 a year. GM does it for free if you don't have a tool.
Anyone looking for a second opinion might try a large tire distributor like Tire Rack.
4 RX has direct TPMS which means that it has a sensor in each wheel that sends the tire pressure for that particular wheel to the tpms computer. Any vehicle with sensor in each wheel functions the same way. I believe didn't tpms had been mandatory in USA for few years now.

original Lexus TPMS sensors are about $50 Canadian each. I would think they should be cheaper in USA.

A far as programming them, the local lexus dealers around me charge $40 to program or $70 to swap and program the wheels.

Quote: Looks great! These are the LX80 wheels from RWC? I was thinking about this exact combination. Can I ask what you paid for these?
Entire package was about $2200 all in with TPMS and taxes (13% in Ontario)

Quote: Toyotaman - which dealer had this winter tire package? I'm waiting for my dealership to send me a quote but they never mentioned any package.
I've seen it at Oakville, Erin Park and Heffner. Prices vary depending on dealer.

I'm going to downsize on winter tires. I will go with Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 SUV 235/65r 18 110 XL I found on Tires by web. Only problem I have is which rims to choose. Any recommendations as to which website, type, offset, etc.

I went with Factory OEM 18" Wheels Rims (18X8 ; offset ET30). check ebay or craigslist.

Get a set of refinished Lexus/Toyota rims 100% compatible with OEM specs. I'd rather have OEM rims than 3rd party stuff. There is a Youtube presentation out there
which shows the different manufacturing process between two. Of course there are quality 3rd party ones which are as expensivie as OEM. I used refinished for BMW,
Acura, Lexus, Subaru. Never had a single issue.

Update: so my deal with the tire shop fell through. Once again disappointment.
My appointment for next week has been cancelled because they tried out the sensors on a different car and it did not work. They told me I can wait for the aftermarket sensor to update their program. I'm not going to wait around for this.

I went back to my home dealership to talk to them about why they don't recommend 18" rims with 235/65/18 tires. I used all the information posted here. Along with supporting information from Will They Fit website (http://www.willtheyfit.com). Excellent site for comparing your existing wheel, with new wheel.

Speedo error is 0.5%
The ride height gain is -1.9mm

They believe this is enough difference to effect the PCS, steering, speed, and will not take the chance with liability.

The advertised 18" winter rims for the RX350 on the website is meant for the base model only and not intended for the F Sport package. They opened an internal Lexus system screen and entered my VIN number to open my tire options. The only one that appeared was the 235/55/20.

Sigh... they said it's my choice but they will not install any tire other than what they recommend.

I see you are in Ontario. I hope I can avoid your dealership. They sound completely incompetent. All Lexus dealers sell this for ALL RX350's regardless of what size wheels it came with. IT"S THE SAME CAR!!!!

All dealerships except the one you call your home dealer....Run fast from this place....real fast!

Speedo error ...so you think you are going 60Kph and you're going 60.3

Sorry to post again, what you are going thru gets me so pissed off. The RX350 on their lot with 18 " wheels is the same as an Fsport or 20" option. Go somewhere else and stop listening to a dealer that is trying to get you to buy 20 inch wheels. Just call another dealer and get their opinion. I can't handle dealerships like this, I would never touch foot in that place and I would be writing Lexus Canada with a formal complaint.

For this winter season I think I'll just go with winter tires on existing rims. Spare all this craziness.
