My wife loved her 2008 RX400H but I decided it was time for it to go. We looked at several vehicles and I "convinced" her to get the 2016 RX350. We purchased it on black Friday and picked it up the next day. She is a techie and likes her toys. But, the learning curve on this car was very high. She struggled with it for a couple of months and visited the Lexus dealer a few times to get briefed on some of the features. The extra width and length was small (only a few inches) but it made the car difficult to drive for both of us. (For me, getting it into the garage before it snows is scary because I can't see the side of the car.) I depend on the parking sensors and pull in very slow. She always parks in the driveway. Finally some time in Feb, things clicked and now she is happy with it. At one point, I thought I would have to swap cars with her since my 2012 RX350 was closer to the RX400H in features and ride. When she was finally happy, I leased an identically equipped car (just a different color). We are both retired Baby Boomers. So I would recommend that you hang in there and spend some time with your Lexus dealer's tech expert. The one at our dealer was great.
Doesn't Lexus now have tech specialists to help guide people through all of the new tech in current vehicles?
Yes they do at my dealer anyway. When we took delivery it was the tech guy's day off so the Sales rep gave us the run thru and did a decent job. After driving the car for week we scheduled a appointment with the tech to come to our house and go thru it again.
I dont care for all of the green indicator lights/acronyms all over the instrument cluster. that is the only aspect of the technology that overwhelms me on this vehicle.
I had a 2014 GS350, the voice command feature rarely worked. The 2016 RX voice recognition still sucks, just like my wife... it doesn't understand a word I'm saying.
Thank you all for your recommendations. I will be doing what many of you have suggested, start with the manual and work from there. This last weekend I took the manual and pre-set my AM and FM radio stations. Yes it turned out to be quite simple but that's what I meant when I titled this OP Tech Overload. Of course now the stations are not in ascending order so that is my next task, back to the manual.
