To turn on the bright headlights (high beams) in a 2016 Lexus RX350, ensure the headlight stalk is in the AUTO or ON position and push the lever away from you. For automatic high beams, push the lever away, then press the AUTO high-beam button (a headlight icon with 'AUTO') on the lower left dashboard.

This video explains how to set up the automatic high-beam headlamps:
  • Manual High Beams: With headlights on, push the stalk away from you to turn on high beams (blue indicator on dash). Pull it back to turn them off.
  • Automatic High Beams (IHB):
    • Turn the stalk to AUTO.
    • Push the stalk forward.
    • Press the automatic high-beam button on the lower left dashboard, ensuring it lights up green.
  • Functionality: The system automatically switches to low beams when it detects traffic and back to high beams when clear.
If you are having trouble, the 2016 Lexus RX350 manual provides a complete guide to lighting settings.

If the above does not work, it may be those bulbs are burned out and need replacement.
Did you get a pre-purchase inspection?
Does your state require a safety inspection?

Sounds like the switch. Plenty of used ones available on eBay etc. A body shop can replace it for less than a repair shop (they have cheaper hourly rates) and they know how to safely work around the airbag. Check out a few local independent shops and find out if they will install a used one for you. Or they may be able to source a local used one. I think this same stalk is used in several Lexus-Toyota vehicles.

To manually select high beam headlights, do not use the "Auto" function. Rotate the headlight switch to the "On" setting.

When using Auto high beam selection, high beams won't operate in a city environment, when driving at slow speed or when stopped.
