Average time frame for after market nav/audio unit?
Is there a general timeframe (years) for when an after market audio/nav unit might become available for a vehicle? I own a Lexus RX 450h and the the audio nav/unit is a colossal piece of *****; by far the worst in any vehicle I have ever owned. There seem to be no aftermarket options to replace it though and replacing it through a Lexus dealership would cost over $5000
I had a 2015 CRV and just adding a subwoofer & amp made a world of difference. I had Cartoys install it where I had it in the back, but velcroed down. When I sold it, all I had to do was disconnect the cables to remove the sub. It's a Kicker Sub with a piggy back amp. I also had a bass controller added for some adjustment.
To what extent? though? Are we talking just replacing the screen with a touch so as to not be reliant on the weird dial mouse? And the sound accessories? Is there anything to swap out the actual head unit that has the faceplate?

I believe there are Android Head units to replace they screen, but worth it's location and my physic and arm length, I would not be able to operate that touch screen.
So for me the module that just adds CarPlay and Android Auto to the factory head unit works well enough. Still uses the mouse.

Why don't you look at a car audio repair shop? Repairing the unit would probably be far cheaper
