Spark Plug Change Interval

I have a six year old RX with 24,000 miles. The maintenance schedule calls for spark plug replacement at 72 months or 60,000 miles. I feel replacement would be premature. What say you?

I agree, too soon.

That schedule is for environmental bs. Those plugs are good for at least 100,000 + miles.

Keep on truckin'. I did some on a '19 350 with 90k miles and they still looked great.

Remember the good ol’ days when plugs, points and condenser maybe lasted 25k miles, and tires might get 20k? :D

I agree, to early and the plugs have only been firing, actual work for 24K u r about a quarter of the way there.

I don't think so. car care nut did a video on this and the interval changed betwen 2GR-FE -> 2GR-FKS. spark plug interval on the FKS is 60K miles, along with the hybrid engine.

Can you please share the link for that video.

Agreed. I replaced mine at 140k miles on an IS and 140k on a GS. No running issues and could have probably gone longer but definitely not 100% necessary unless you notice a driving issue IMO.

While mechanically the spark plugs are "probably" fine, the 72 month/60k interval is REQUIRED to maintain your Lexus Emissions Warranty.
  • Interval:
The spark plugs should be replaced every 60,000 miles or 6 years, as required for Emission Control Warranty

Car Care Nut is a good channel for Toyota maintenance. I would follow his advice and change the plugs earlier than later. Save your receipts as the poster above said, to maintain the warranty.

Has anyone here ever failed a state emissions test who has spark plugs beyond 60,000 miles on their RX 350?
