Quote: Was at my local Lexus dealership and saw an RX perked beside me. Drivers side window was smashed. Front right bumper corner was pryed apart. Head light connector was hanging out . SMH
What's the point of stealing a car if you're going to destroy it? Unless you just want parts.

Must have been amature thieves. They steal them without breaking any glass, usually.

I think that this has to be done by the dealer on this generation RX. The manual states that the Smart Key system can only be disabled by a dealer. In the meantime, before you get to the dealer, you can safely place your key in a Faraday Pouch.

Quote: Thieves have used this method to try to steal my Lexus RX350 twice.
I had an after market immobilzer on it so they could unlock the door but not start the car.
The first time I had gone back to the dealership to plug back in the headlight wire and run diagnostics.
Now that it happened a second time, am i able to just plug the wire back in myself? Thx
I’m interested in an aftermarket immobilizer. What brand, and DIY installation ?

Can I PM you to provide the info for your Immobilizer and how to install? I am really interested since I am in the hub of RX thefts. Might be safer not provide too much info in the open since some of the thieves are pretty tech savvy and I am sure do go through these forums......

It's good to make it more difficult, but thieves are doing their research also. Maybe inquiring about increasing auto insurance. I know it's already inflated, but if a thief want your ride bad enough they will take it.

Look into the AutoWatch Ghost 2. I have it in my new NX, that replaced my stolen 2020 RX 350. You are essentially the fob, you program the buttons you want in the car. Simple, effective.

No, it's not a DIY system. Requires a pro installer as they get right into the CAN bus. Installers are all vetted by police first before being allowed to do the work as there are obvious implications of knowing your code before you change it. I saw the unit before they put it in. Tiny, no case and just a few wires. Proprietary software and required programming for each car model. A really slick device.

RCMP, OPP and many other police forces use these in their vehicles.

Gent who sold me mine told me last week that in the prior 2 weeks about a dozen attempted thefts were thwarted. One guy was on his 3rd Ram pickup when he had this installed. They got into it but couldn't steal it.
