Infotainment system not working after car battery changed
Has anybody run into this issue? The screen just remains black (doesn't turn on). so no radio, rear camera, etc. But the air conditioning, and buttons work...but not the radio dials.
I took the car to the lexus dealership, and after diagnostics, they couldn't find the problem. They said I'd have to get it replaced with a refurbished one, for around 2,500 USD.
The issue happened when AAA changed the battery on the car. The infotainment system was working perfectly well before then. For a second opinion, I took the car to another mechanic, and they also confirmed what lexus told us: no blown fuses, everything looks okay, but just don't know what the issue could be. Looks like it will have to be replaced.
Does anybody here have any idea on if there is a simple fix? Anything we are overlooking? Or any idea what exactly may have caused this?
Lexus told me that they've never seen this problem before, and that there is no recall on this car for this issue. I am sure that something triggered it to stop working after the battery change, as it is very unlikely for it to fail at the same time, too much of a coincidence.
Most audio systems have a hidden reset button somewhere behind the face panel. I would research your system and attempt to find a diagram showing where your reset button is. In some cases the unit must be pulled out of the dash to access it.
Try this:
Turn your car on, but do not start the engine. Turn the radio off. Hold the radio power button down for a few minutes until it resets. Some have said that holding it for almost a minute may work too.
On April 21,2022 I took my 2013 RX into my great dealership, Sewell Lexus of Dallas to have the battery replaced. The current battery was working fine but was 4.5 years old. When I picked the car up the nav. screen and radio were blank as you described. I did a quick circle pulling back into service and told them "they must have fried my nav./radio"! They did acknowledge it was working when I brought it in but reminded me, "I still had the original radio" as if they don't last forever!! They couldn't fix it and said they would approach Lexus about replacing it. After several days Lexus agreed. Several days later they found a radio. Here is what the invoice stated;
"Parts 72306 860031 0.60 Diagnosed as faulty radio assembly, replaced radio assembly under good will replacement. After replacement nav screen is operational and the radio/map functions are restored."
If I may be of any more assistance please let me know. Good Luck!
