The replacement transmission may indeed be a refurbished one. You should clarify that with your dealership's service manager. And make certain you get whatever warranty it comes with in writing.
In either case, it certainly beats Lexus deciding to do nothing to help you.

Yes a new one would be like finding a unicorn. or in this case given a unicorn. In any case this is standard procedure even if you were within warranty period.
Now the next question is ... will the dealership be able to keep the cost below the limit. They can alway go back to Lexus and ask for more.

Congratulations on getting Lexus to provide another transmission. Something had to be defective for it to fail at that low a mileage. They will probably want to tear it down to see what failed for reliability studies.
RX in NC - I think the price and later increase in the amount refers to the amount of money Lexus will pay towards a replacement transmission. I doubt RXgirl2015 will pay anything for the replacement.
