Talking Finally Installed a Remote Starter MYSELF

Hi everyone,

After calling nearly every Lexus dealer in my state about getting a remote starter installed on my 2015 RX350, the lowest quote I got was $950 and that was after some 5% discount thing they gave me... all the others were quoting me ~$1,100.

I find this ridiculous, this is still a Toyota product and there's no way i'm going to get fleeced out of a $1,000 just because my car has an L on the front of it. I did a ton of research online and I looked into several different kits but although I consider myself relatively decent with mechanics I wasn't comfortable with splicing into my $25,000 car's wiring also a ton of these kits said that I had to get my car towed to a Lexus dealer after installing and have them program it for me... uhh what??? Knowing Lexus they'd still charge me $200 to do that so there would be no savings anyway... I called a few independent shops and a few quoted me $300 which was a good deal, but I was extremely nervous about handing my car over to anyone besides a Toyota or Lexus dealer. I considered Best Buy (they installed a remote starter on my old RAV4 and it worked no problems) but I was reading reviews and some claimed they damaged their car so I was not willing to risk that.

So my options was spend $950 at the Lexus dealer or roll the dice with an independent shop/best buy for $300.

However I discovered another option... and it's this right here. https://www.12volt.solutions/product...exus~md_rx-350

This kit is COMPLETELY PLUG & PLAY! AND they have VIDEO INSTRUCTIONS! AND the best part is that you don't have to bring it to Lexus to get programmed!! Also it's only ~$280 shipped.

Here's the video, If you're interested then I highly recommend watching 3-4 times and make sure you're comfortable...

The install took me 2.5 hours and I took my time. The instructions didn't say to disconnect the battery but I did anyway to be safe. Also at one part they suggest to remove the shroud around the steering wheel. Well I tried but it was giving me issues so I was luckily able to work around it without removing that part (took a little bit of effort but I got it).

Programming and install was easy. Again the hardest part was removing the dash panels. I took my time, and did it one step at a time and everything buttoned together nicely and worked perfectly! No surprises!

Some reviewers were complaining that the range wasn't great, but I can start my car from my bedroom and it's on the 2nd floor to my car which sits in the drive way, about 50 feet away. And I like how it uses the factory key fob (just hit the lock button 3 times). It will shut off the car the second you open the door which is super annoying but every Lexus does that and there's no getting around it.

Anyway, I bought this kit with my own money, these thoughts are my own and I am very happy with this kit. I hope this helps anyone who found themselves in the same situation as myself.

Great job!

Another cheaper option if you dont want to do the installation is to buy from bestbuy and some of them have installation included. I bought this one for $300 (included installation) when there was a deal going on https://www.bestbuy.com/site/compust...?skuId=6269220

This was a great option. I installed the same unit and it works fine. They do have an optional $99 upgrade to extend the range of the remote start but you get new keyless entry remotes for that. On the fence about doing the range upgrade.
