Traded in the wife's RX for a Highlander
Traded in our 2012 RX for a 2018 Highlander Limited that has all the bells and whistles and so far we love it. It has far more options than our RX, but I'm sure that has to do with owning a 6 year old model. I'm sure the new Lexus has just as much high tech features, if not more.
I will say the Highlander rides just as quite and smooth as the RX. Toyota has really stepped up their game. There were just to many things we liked about the Highlander. The third row seat (which we will rarely use but is nice to have in a pinch). The rear window that opens separately from the main hatch. The JBL sound system (big improvement over the one we had in the RX). Felt like we got way more bang for our buck with the Highlander. Another factor was even though we loved our RX, we both absolutely hate the gaudy front ends of the newer Lexus. Just not for us. Going to miss the RX but so far I'm glad we chose the Highlander. Also paid 10k less than what we paid in 2011 for the RX.

Just curious, your 2012 Lexus RX350 was running good and you traded it in for a highlander because of
a third row seat (you don't use often), a premium speaker system and a separate rear window?

I agree with your perception of the butt-ugly cow-catcher grills on the 2016-and-newer Lexus vehicles. That was certainly one reason why we opted for a well-cared-for 2015 model in late October as my wife's new daily driver.

I still miss the opening rear hatch window from my long gone 1995 Ford Explorer. Made it very easy to carry ladders and kayaks.

Those are just the reasons we picked the Highlander over another Lexus. We traded it in because it was a seven year old vehicle and we wanted the newest technology available. Also helped there was a generous rebate and a great trade-in price. We felt our RX was at it's peak trade-in time. The trade-in saved us a bundle in taxes. It was just too good of a deal to turn down.

Glad you love the new vehicle. My wife wanted a HL until she drove it. She had a Sienna for almost 10 years and didn't want a vehicle that size again. She test drove a new rav4 and hated that it had no power. She found her CPO RX and loves it.

We traded a RAV4 in for our 2012 RX. It was a fun car to drive since it had the same engine the RX had (shame they only put 4 cyl engines in RAV's today). Only problem it was quite a noisy vehicle to drive on the highway. That's why we fell in love with the RX. At that time we felt the only way to get a smooth quite ride was with a luxury car like Lexus.

Third row and premium audio are certainly available on the 4RX but better bang for the buck will obviously go to Toyota over Lexus, generally speaking. The Highlander has always been a very good vehicle. I never cared for the look of the older models but the newer ones are much better looking IMO. The look of the new RX's doesn't bother me. We ended up getting a 3RX mostly for financial reasons. If it had worked out we would have purchased a 4RX.

We did the opposite about 7 months ago. Got rid of our 2015 Highlander Platinum and bought a 2015 RX 350. The RX is smaller inside, but not much. The RX is MUCH quieter on the highway, and the standard RX sound system is much better than the JBL system in the Highlander. The RX transmission shifts better and the cruise control is more precise. Seats are more comfortable too. Gas mileage about the same. Best thing was that it cost us less than $1000 to make the swap.

Right. We have RX and I sold my 12 Highlander. Highlander has MUCH more space inside. And, if you strategically lower all the backrests, you can fit very long boards inside. And, if you open that tailgate window - I had 12ft ones inside too.
Highlander is UTILITY vehicle. Family, hauling. RX is a badge vehicle. So from that on, it goes 2 ways - you either want utility, or you want badge. Not gonna get both in one.
