My A/C wasn't working right, would blow hot and then cold air. I took it to a local Christan Brothers, which is supposed to be an honest repair shop franchise. They said the system lost its software/memory and wasn't controlling whatever he called the valve because of the dual zone cooling the car has. Basically the car some how lost the software or memory and it had to be updated. Cost, $170. I'm a little sticker shocked, did it take them several hrs to just figure that out or something?? I'm wondering if this one time it would have been cheaper to go to the dealership. lol
ASSUMING they have the right software update (I think it's BS).......
WILL THEY GURANTEE THIS WILL FIX THE PROBLEM FOR X DAYS/X MILES? IN WRITING? OR YOUR MONEY BACK, NO QUESTIONS ASKED?
I would get a second opinion at another Indy place specializes in Toyotas/Lexus.
Usually AC problems will cost you a lot more than $179.

Back in mid 90's Lexus vehicles used to have almost a dedicated controller for each function and ever since then, they are being consolidated. They all need some sort of program that runs and polls information from sensors. Once in a while things can go crazy (I call them gremlins). These programs get reset when you shut off the vehicle and come back up when you start the vehicle. [Some even prime up with unlock and opening of the door ... first gen on insertion of the key in ignition]. At times you have to disconnect the battery to get full reset.
I am leaning towards a terminal pull and reconnect after 15 to 20 minutes and the proper function was restored.
