Default Rearview Mirror Button

Rearview mirror came loose a few days ago. Picked up a glue kit at an auto parts store, and was told to glue on the metal button first, let it sit and stick, then reinstall the mirror. Problem is I can't seem to remove the metal button. Tried prying with a flat screwdriver, and it didn't budge. There looks to be a screw from the underside holding the button, but not sure how to remove it either.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Did the flat metal piece come off the glass? Most likely not. Rear view mirror slides on top of it and there is a set screw that binds it in position. The flat button is glued to the glass and it should not be removed .. unless the glass is to be replaced.

My 2011 450H had that problem and all I needed was to tighten the set screw.

The button auto-dim on or off is on the rearview mirror assembly frame. Post pictures to help identify your problem.

Default Metal Button

Actually, it was the metal piece that came off the windshield, possibly due to the heat down here in TX.

That metal piece is attached to the mirror, and I can't seem to slide it out so it can be re-glued to the windshield for re-assembly.

What did you use to tighten the screw with? I figure I should untighten for the button to slide out. Thanks!

The arrangement is such that the metal is glued to the glass. The mirror assembly slides down on the metal and then there is a set screw on the mirror assembly to secure it to the metal piece.

Can you spot the screw? Untwist it {make sure you do this on a table, so that you dont loose the screw}. Then slide the metal piece out [if you have not turned/twisted the mirror .. hold it up as it should be in the RX] the metal should be pushed down-wards. ... remember the mirror just hangs off it .. the weight slides it down.

Heat in Texas just started .. strange that glue gave way. We keep the windows cracked 1/8" .. just enough for the air while keeping the rain out.

You can see the screw when looking "up" from the under side of the mirror, and is in the housing which slides over the metal "button" which gets re-glued to the glass. The set screw is a T15 (Torx, or star-drive). If there is no screw in the mounting hole, it sounds like someone who has no foresight glued the mount onto the button. Refer to the picture below to see where the setscrew is located (picture is not a Lexus mirror, but shows the screw's location all the same).
