HELP! RX450H Back door locked while system thinks it’s open
Hello everyone!
A couple of days ago, I came back from a long holiday. Of course, I found my RX450H with a dead battery. As I couldn’t open the trunk with a key, I had to do it manually from the inside, by moving the lever.
Then I removed the battery, charged it, put it back in. All was fine for a day.
But now I have this weird problem, the back door is closed but the system thinks it’s open.
The door ajar light stays on, the key fob doesn’t want to close the car, when I drive I have the “back open” warning message and annoying buzzer sound, etc. etc.
The weirdest thing is now I can’t even open the back door unless I do it manually from the inside.
I tried to open it manually and close it many times but the car still thinks it’s open.
I even tried to disconnect and reconnect the battery, but nothing worked.
After I charged the battery, I opened and closed it for a day without any problem.
What could have happened? Any ideas?

Maybe the power assist motor to lift it up failed or the hatch lock itself is stuck in the closed position preventing the hatch door from closing and latching properly.
Will the hatch open or close with the motor moving it or do you have to make it open and or close? Check all fuses.
Inspect the hatch lock on the moving part as that is what opens and closes to latch on the stationary part on the body.
After this, I think you need a body shop or other repair place to look at it.

In the very last section of the RX 350 manual is a table described as "Things to initialize" which are items that need to be reset after changing the battery. The rear door is one of them and the other is the tire pressure system.

Actually, I am not talking about the "power back door" function.
My back door won't open at all. When I open my car, all doors open except this one. It remains locked even though the car thinks it's open.
I have to crawl through my back seats to the back of my trunk to open it manually, which is not very convenient.
There must be some kind of electrical problem.
In the manual they talk about initalizing the power back door system.
