Lightbulb Backup Camera

Hello members,

I purchased 2010 RX 350 recently. It doesn't have a Nav and the backup camera view comes up on the rear view mirror. My Question is, is there any hack/way to port the backup camera view to the nav screen even if there is no Navigation in your car?

Thanks,

When I back up I look back over my shoulder and hardly use the backup camera. Does anyone back up just using the camera?

The RX without NAV does not have the same quality of screen as the NAV model. For this reason, I don't think you can have camera display on the screen. I have my backup camera on the rear view mirror in my Subaru Outback and prefer it over my NAV equipped RX 450h. It just seems safer to be able to look at the rear view and see behind the car in the mirror. I have always felt the backup camera image in the NAV screen is very unnatural feeling ... almost a safety issue.

I have a backup camera in both my Rx and my Tahoe. I primarily use the side mirrors and only reference the rear view as a secondary check. Probably more habit than anything else.

Thats what I mean, I bet most people never look at the back-up camera.

I do, but only for seconds to make sure that there is nothing laying in my driveway.

I have a infiniti G35x with navigation and the backup camera on it is really nice. Bought the RX350 for my wife and she prefers to look at the backup camera. That is when i thought whether it would be possible to port the camera view to the main screen using some cheat codes.

Without navigation, I don't think it's possible. Check with a third party installer though and see if there are any cost effective options.

Yes, you can have the camera go to the Navigation screen, if it supports a backup camera.
Now, the much harder question is, what Navigation screen?

I don't think the non-nav screen is capable of displaying a picture. Probably only numbers.
In other words, I'm pretty sure non-nav screen is different technology compared to the nav screen.

I have the 2014 without nav and back up camera. The picture shows up on the screen, not on the rear view mirror. Picture looks good to me, similar quality to the other pictures posted on another thread.

My neighbor has a 13 without Nav and has the backup camera on the display screen. It was done after factory at Car Toys. It's a better camera than the one on my 15. Cost was around $300.

$300 is pretty decent price to get it done. Anyone know of any similar shops near Chicago or any of the suburbs of Chicago that does these kind of mods?

Try asking your Lexus dealer to recommend a place. Our dealer uses Car Toys sometimes and that's how my friend found out.

I've inquired about replacing my camera. The problem with that is a connector for it hasn't been made for it yet because the 15s haven't been out long enough.
They also told me if the camera is hard wired ( which may be your case. ) it may void your warranty.

Of course I look at the camera to see if any neighbor cats, toys that are shorter than the rear window is in the way. For a normal car you can turn and look before backing up but for a SUV you can't see anything small behind the suv.
