Default Gas tank capacity

Hi, I saw in the spec sheet of the 2015 RX 350 the gas tank is 19.2 gallon. But whenever I fill up (Cruising range < 10 mile, low fuel light on for 10-20 miles) I can only fill 15.5-15.8 gallon. Does it mean the light/cruising range was made to warn when there are still like 3-4 gallons left in the tank? Thanks!

I don't want to really push the limit, but if I know 3-4 gallons are still there I wouldn't rush to fill up when cruising range is still ~50 (I fill up now at 50)

19.2g is a big tank...I fill about 14 on near empty tank as well. I wonder if there is that 3g in reserve.

Im tempted to run on empty on my next long road trip to test it. always good to know what your car can do.

I'm tempted to try too. I think I'll get a one gallon can before testing just in case I really run out out gas. If you do it before I do, please share here the result

Please dont!

Serves no point. Yellow light just like the yellow light on a stop sign isn't there as a suggestion. It's letting you know that something bad is going to happen if you continously play around with it.

Fuel pump sits in your tank surrounded by cool gasoline which it also sucks up (from the bottom so myth about getting dirty gas is exactly that, a myth) to keep it's internals cooled. Reducing the amount of gasone surronding the pump or inside the pump causes more wear and tear on the pump.

Simple equation and not worth you 'knowing what your car can do'.

Do not understand why people go less than 1/4 tank. You know you're going to need it, so refill it.

I agree, although i was in situations on long road trips where gas stations were closed at night and I had to sleep in the car till morning...in this case to judge distance and what it can go for is interesting. Ive always know how far I can push my cars.

But yes, it sounds silly, but if you take long trips sometimes you want to get somewhere quick and not lose 30m-1h to do a pit stop on a 24/h trip.

tqh, welcome to CL and congrats on your RX. This topic has been discussed many times, including this nearly identical thread. It's also the case for other topics too. I would highly suggest taking time to read through the manual and/or do a search first. As you can see, some things, like the gas tank size, stayed the same through the five years the 3RX has been around.
