3RX Which Engine Oil Brand Did/Do/Will You Use?
Toyota OEM, Pennzoil, Castrol, Amsoil, Royal Purple, each brand has its own audience of fans.
Which brand did you guys use? Any particular reason (price, availability, etc.)?
My ride has gone through 2 oil changes, at 5k interval.
Both oil changes were done at a shop, but used my own oil and filter.
Oil: Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic 0W-20
Filter: Mobil 1 Filter: M1C-251

Castrol Edge with Titanium
There are some who pray and bow to Castrol Edge with Titanium, which is more expensive than Pennzoil, Mobil 1, etc.
Anyone has experience with the Castrol Edge w. Titanium?

Ive been using Mobil 1 full synthetic 0w20 and get it done every 7,500 miles. OEM Toyota filter. I bring my own oil and have a local Toyota dealer do the service. Ive been using that dealer since 2000 for all my Toyota and Lexus vehicles. Plus I get to stand there and watch when they perform the service. They even let me drive my car into the service bay.

The pursuit of F
I used to change my own oil on past cars, but for the lack of time nowadays, minimal cost savings, and hassle of disposing the used oil, I just don't bother. So I get my oil changed at Toyota for about 60$ and they use OEM Toyota 0w20 synthetic and the OEM filter.

10,000 is the interval, as most members know.
studies have shown that you can go as far as 17,000 miles with a full synthetic
So, not trying to be smart here, BUT what makes 5,000 better? why not every 4,000? 3,750?
jiffy lube guys ( NOT endorsing/recommending them!!) says every 3,000.
anyway, i use mobil 1 0W-20 ( the same formula that Toyota have on their OEM)
filter is toyota
and i do it myself

where have you been driving? or have you been driving less to justify the 5K interval?

If you are interested in better understanding your oil and engine, periodically have the used oil analyzed by someone like Blackstone Labs; then you will have the needed info to make a more quantitative decision on oil change intervals for your Rx.

This is what I do.

Haven't done an oil change yet as I'm coming on up on the 5k mark (since ownership). Will be going to Toyota dealer (unless it's much warmer out and then will do it myself) at 10k for full synthetic.
Agree that 5k changes for regular oil is a waste, for synthetic it's a 'kick me' sign.

Please keep in mind folks that it is distance OR time on the oil changes. There is nothing wrong with a 5K oil change interval and especially under the right circumstances. For me, if I went 10K between oil changes it would equate to one oil change every three (3) years.
