Evian is over-rated. Perrier leaves less water spots.

Why stop there? I only wash my Lexus with Heineken.

I did a run using 89 for the 350 and the results are not good. I got less mileage and lower performance. I did that for 3 tank full and calculate the cost vs benefits and came out about the same. I paid less at the pump but also got less mileage (and lower performance). Since then I stick with premium only.

On the 450h, because the engine is on and off so often I only use premium since I believe it will burn better and cleaner. Gas is getting cheaper now. 89 grade is $3.41 while 91 grade is $3.68.

I have a 2011 RX350 with Nav and 15,000k miles, My older brother in law has a 2012 with Nav and 8,000k miles. We have always argued about 87 vs 93 and he claims there is no difference and that he claims he can go the same distance. I have always run 93 I have never touched 87 since the day I started driving. One day we were on a road trip from Miami to Jacksonville 370 Miles to a wedding. He was with his wife My sister and there 2 girls I was with my wife and 2 girls. We both filled up at the Shells gas station before we left he always adds a extra half gallon or so after the pump clicks I always take it out after the first click.

The trip takes about 5hr 30mins approximately, after leaving the gas station at 8pm we cruise on I-95 up to jacksonville no breaks we stopped 25miles outside jacksonville so he can fill up I had 42 miles left on the tank and he only had 6 miles left.

he claims he was under more load because he was carrying more luggage,

He is 5'4" 120lb my sister 5'4" 100lbs his 2 girls 100.
ME 5'11" 180LBS my wife 5'7" 120lbs our 2 girls 80lbs

for the whole 370miles I was in front and he was 100ft back .

You guys be the judge

I love your comparison. Almost identical cars, same weights (you carry little more), you face headwinds and still come out better. 93 grade is amazing in my 450h (got 31-33 mpg in AWD with 4 people in it). Too bad we only have 91 here in the midwest.

In my 450h AWD using premium grade 91 I average 28-29 mpg depending on the distance traveled. Using mid-grade 89 my best mpg has yet to exceed 26.

This probably won't change anyone's mind one way or another, but the EPA estimates are the same for 2012 RX350 AWD on regular, and 2011 RX350 AWD on premium. Both estimates are 18/24/20.

RX450h is rated on premium only with the EPA.

It's the same scenario for the ES350 which was also "rerated" for regular.

Agreed, but they are probably at least as accurate as reports from a friend of a friend or my brother's girlfriend's parents etc.

None of these reports were that;; they are all OUR figures; Read a little more carefully.....but I realize that if I had published data that my Lexus went 150 MPH with Premium, some of you would not be convinced,.,,,I suggest the thread be closed for lack of information soaking in to many people

Ok your brother-in-law was probably too far back to get the benefit of drafting behind your car. In fact he might have been in a spot where the wind resistance was actually worse because of your car.

Now the real question is would your brother-in-law's 2012 which was tuned down to accept regular gas have gotten better mileage with premium.
