RX450h compared to Subaru WRX Wagon (long)
Maybe not such a silly comparison...
I own both.
I bought the Subie in 2002 to be able to carry my tandem bike inside (YES it fits) and be our sole household car. We also desired decent performance, AWD and decent looks.
My new partner and I bought the 450h to replace a 9 month old CT200h which we outgrew due to family and pet care requirements.
The RX450h obviously has a reat deal more cargo capacity. It also gets better mileage and the straight-line performance of the V6 is surprisingly close to the Turbo 4 in the Subaru. The Lexus interior is pure luxury; something the Subie could never approach, but the Subie's seats hold you more firmly in position. I can assume the RX designers did not intend the Hybrid SUV to be "tossed" around corners like the Subie.
The Subaru is simply a RIOT to drive. 0-60 is around 6 sec. AWD handling is enhanced by suspension engineering that compares to Porsche and BMW. The low COG of the boxer engine also helps. The WRX is even very comfy on long highway drives. Moreso than it's pumped-up brother the STi. The RX beats it as far as looking over the car in front of you, but the WRX wagon has EXCELLENT all-around visibility. As an aside; the CT200h was like looking out of a "tank" in comparison. The RX is pretty good, but not excellent.
Resale value... No comparison.
