Default Should I pay for Oil change on leased 2010 RX350?

I am 24 months into a 36 month lease on a 2011 RX350. I guess only the first oil change is covered.

The car is at 18,200 miles. By the time it hits 20,000 miles it will be less than 10 months left on the lease.

Can I avoid paying for the $60 oil change (at least) and just turn the vehicle in at lease end?

Will they know/or apply a penalty for not changing the oil? I am not seeing the point of doing for a car I won't be driving in 2014.

Please let me know. Thanks.

So when you turn it in the vehicle will have about 27K miles. This means by skipping the 20K oil change you will be going over the recommendation by 7K miles. Don't do it. First, it's not very fair to the next owner of the vehicle. Second, if something were to go wrong with the engine during those 10 months, you could be liable. Third, it's just plain cheap. You didn't lease a Hyundai, pay the $60 and do the right thing.

Would you like it if you bought a used vehicle only to find out the previous owner pulled something like this?

At least take it to a Toyota Express Lube and get the oil changed there.

Check your lease agreement. You agreed to maintain the car according to the required service intervals. If you turn the car in without the proper maintenance, they can charge you for excessive wear. That relatively cheap service you skipped could end up being extremely expensive. Get the service done for your own protection and because it is the right thing to do. You are 100% responsible for the condition of the car.

Just go to your closest jiffy lube and present your coupon and get the cheapest oil change possible...when you turn in a leased car, no one will ever ask for service record or care you changed the oil..all they want to do is get you into another car..

David, that would not be the smartest advise but I see you don't own a Gen III RX. It has the new low friction engine that requires the synthetic 0w20w oil, definitely not cheap dyno oil. That being said you can get oil and filter changes done very reasonably at Toyota for about 1/2 to 1/3 the price Lexus charges.

The cost to change the oil is at least $60. This gets you 10K miles. With my previous behicle, the cost for oil change was $20 and that got you 7.5K miles.

The other part of this is that I will turn in the car at lease end around 27 miles or less.

While I am going to do this, I am not seeing the value.

atomarchio, I'm not sure what kind of answer you're looking for. You've driven your RX without paying for any maintenance and now reluctantly want to pay for an oil change because it's a lease and you won't see the value. If you change the oil now and pay $60, you will realize the benefit by driving a properly maintained vehicle for another 10K in addition to the 18.2K miles you've already put on the odometer. Then the dealer will take care of the next oil change when you turn it in. Yes, you are obligated to have the RX serviced. It could cost you if they find anything wrong. And I can guarantee the bill will be well north of $60. As Jim mentioned, Toyota will do an oil change for less and use the same products as Lexus. Check for dealer coupons. Some will match prices.

BTW, I traded in my 330 with 3 month old tires, including the spare. I could have maybe pushed it until the 450h came in. But I didn't want to take the chance of having any problems. Maybe you should look at it that way too.

Also, can you clarify which year your RX is. Your title says 2010 but your thread it says 2011.

Angelo, I'm a bit confused. You're asking what the value is to you to change the oil. Let's say you were procuring the vehicle for yourself and it was an off-lease that was 7000 miles overdue for fresh oil, you'd see it then for sure. If you do drive a Lexus then you should know $20 oil changes are in the past. But given all of that, you should pay attention to your agreement in your lease to properly maintain the vehicle and that would include all scheduled maintenance (ie; oil change).

But more confusion there because part of your post indicates you have a 2010, another part 2011 and your profile says you have no Lexus at all. Can you clarify?

I think there's been enough piling on at this point. I have a 2011 RX350. I could not figure out to how add my car into the profile.

This was not obviously not a good question. Yes I am definitely doing to change the oil now.

Glad to hear you will be changing the oil. And I have to agree with you there, there's been enough. Thread closed.
