Question Deep Puddle Question Transmission Damage Possible?

so I have deep puddle flood question too. Mine's not as bad as our friend with RX450h that got flooded by Sandy. Today their was a down poor and I had to drive down some flooded street that went up to the rubber on the tire. The car went through fine, but on the last street I had to take the water started rising a bit past the chrome on RX's door sill, so I decided to backup after a block because the water was getting increasingly higher. But when I did the car made a weird humming noise and the steering sounded funny when I would turn it while in reverse. When back in drive the car transmission sounded fine, but the steering sounded funny for a about a minute, when turning. Both have gone away and the car seems fine for now.

The car seems to drive fine, but when I googled about driving through deep puddles it says that their are vents at the top of the transmission and water can enter from their. Is this also true on the RX? Also in the manual it said we shouldn't get the transmission wet, which I am very sure I did. I always thought transmission cases were sealed. I am wondering if I damaged my transmission?

Oh I have the 2010 RX350 with AWD if it helps. and I went really slow in the puddle or maybe it would be considered a flood in this case. Because I wanted to stick my head out the window to make sure the water was getting to deep. This happened in the city to so the water was filthy. Getting the under carriage washed for sure tomorrow.

Call your insurance company and see if any damage would be covered. If so have the dealership inspect the car and transmission fluid for contamination.

The transmission is a "closed" system, if the water only reached the edge of the tires, there should be no damage at all...

I agree w// above post about the belt got wet.

Thanks. What does closed system mean? Is the transmission completely seal with no vent holes? So I don't have to worry about water getting in no matter how deep the water.

Right-it is a sealed system, but you have to worry about getting alternator and starter wet, also about hydrolocking the engine, when driving through deep water.
