It must feel really bad losing a new and nice car with just 800 miles. I don't think she must have explored all the options and comforts yet but on the brighter side everybody is safe with no major injuries(I suppose).

Also, the pictures show the knee air bags being deployed both on the driver and passenger side which are kind of new in the 2013 model as explained by my sales guy when I went to see the 2013 RX for the first time.

Also, looking at the pictures it seems like she will get a new car. I hope she recovers from the trauma and get's back to her normal life soon.

DAMN!!! hope your sis and passenger are okay. hate to see this. as long as everyone involved is fine, then that's what matters first and foremost. cars can be replaced.

Glad everyone was okay but if thats what a 50MPH hit with no brakes applied looks like then the RX is my next vehicle for my wife cause i have a junk pile of my own that hit a concrete pole at 30-35MPH and she was banged up pretty bad.

Before the BIG BANG theory....

^^ Being rear ended you have a much better survival rate than the car coming from behind...plus they had all that pick up space to protect them

glad everyone is okay, but the car did its job well.

Wow! That's crazy! Glad to hear everyone is okay. I was wondering if ur sister is gonna take out some accessories if they total it. If so I'd be interested in buying the trays inside ur center counsol. Let me know.

and all those airbags cost a ton to replace. I remember an aolmost new Porsche 968 cbriolet that was vandalized with a knife. They slashed all the tires via the sidewalls, slashed the convertible top, the leather seats, the dash and the airbags. The insurance company totaled it. The airbags were the kicker. My bet is it will be totaled. Hopefully she had a good policy that also pays for a rental in the meantime.

Actually, Mr. Sunny, the knee airbags have been present on the RX since the second gen, at least on the 2007 models, that I recall. The 2007 RX was my first Lexus, and I remember reading in the brochure about the knee airbags.

You got to remember just because there is an area away from you, doesn't mean that you are safe. Pickups usually have fully boxed frames and the tow bar is pretty tough it can easily transmit the G's into the driver and cause harm. I was in my friends Pickup, the rear seat we got rear ended and my head smashed into the window(no head rest) I was ok glass did not break but was enough to disorient me for a little. Thankfully it was not a harder hit.

hopefully everyone involved is ok, cars are replaceable.

For the people in the F250, they need to be concerned about whiplash.
It may not be present during the time of the incident but later down the road, the patient may exhibit symptoms of neck injuries like muscle spasms, headaches, pain etc.

And these people can go after your sister for medical expenses.. Just saying.

The vehicle was declared a total loss, now we are waiting for the check, and we are now ordering another one, but with black interior. The grey was too light, we disliked it so now we have a second chance to get black inside.

So happy the safety systems worked as designed. Most cars today are designed to sacrifice themselves for the safety of the occupants. Some work better than others, Lexus has always been in the top rankings.

I suspected a total was in it's future. The insurance company will try to salvage the totally undamaged parts for future use or sell it for that purpose to a salvage company.
