Default Thinking of buying a left over 2012 RX?

My 2008 IS250 is getting too small for me and I had some thoughts of getting a left over 2012 RX now that the 2013's are now out. Any thoughts on that? I got a few internet prices from a few dealers who gvave me prices of around 42,000 for vehicles with no nav but most of the other options. Maybe if I wait the prices on the 2012's might come down a little more? There's also a .9% financing on the 12's right now too...

Up here in Canada there is a cash discount price of $5000 in Ontario on the 2012's. This may sound attractive but the same comparable model, MSRP, in the 2013's is now $2500 less!

I was looking at a Premium 2 demo for a 2012 but I'm not so sure now if it will be worth it.... I was quoted after the cash discount, $41,000 with 13500 KM on it plus taxes for a 2012 Demo. The regular MSRP is $52,000. I'm not sure if this is a good deal or not.... I will have to play with the numbers some more.

Phillies: Prices may go down (I sort of doubt it, as do some other folks in other threads), but you're also working with diminishing inventory.

I bought one about April 14 at Prestige and they were terrific,,I did not want nav..and I got 1.9% which is dirt cheap money in 4 years,,,I guess .9% is even better...Prestige was good to me and a straight shooter deal, I even had an Acura MDX 2011 to trade and the treatment was superb,,,if interested in your list of dealers I can provide you the sales rep name..good luck to you

Got a 2012 with Nav (sticker 49,600) for 45k last weekend in Delaware...these cars hold their value incredibly well. Wife had a 2010 ES that was totaled in an accident. We paid 38k for the in Feb 2010, insurance company gave us a check for 34,800. Great cars and smart investment (well, cars aren't really investments, but you get the idea)...

Hard to get $2500 off a 2013 on the East Coast.

The best I've seen is for about 1k off.

Then you have to ask yourself how much do you like the new front bumper and other small upgrades. If you like them, which I do, especially the day time running lights, do you like them enough to pay 2500 in your case, and 4000 more on the East Coast (thats where it gets tough for me)

I wish they would have upgrade the engine, that would have sold it for me. I'm guessing they'll do it in the near future.

I guess it comes down to what the buyer likes and how much they like the changes and are willing to pay.

Now of course if you get a 2013 you will get more back in return in a trade than a 2012. The amount depends on how long you have the suv.

I did some checks for kicks using Edmunds trade in value, no extras, just AWD.

the trade in value between a 2011 and 2010 (2-3 years ago) with the same amount of milage had a difference of $1,395 trade in value, but the trade in value between a 2009 and 2008 (about 4-5 years ago) with 60k miles had a difference of about $680.00.

So the longer you have the car the smaller the amount you can make back bc you have a earlier model.

I talked to a few dealers, so far they said that its been mixed. Even with the 2013 on the lot they are still selling the 2012 at a good rate.

gqscholar, thank you very much for the information and your input. I normally keep my vehicles for about 7- 8 years. I personally prefer the 2012 grill.... I like the interior refresh but it would not justify the additional costs for me. I will make my way to the local Lexus dealer to see what I can work out.

Inventory is out there, at least for now. So are the dealers. Given that, Phillies, I'm sure you have soom room to negotiate a better price. But I wouldn't wait.

Phillies ... rather than wait for prices to come down, go out and start working with dealers now. You don't have to buy right now. Just make the dealers aware you are in the market and looking for a great price. See what you can negotiate. Your price will probably drift down an extra $1000 or $2000 while you are talking to the dealers. Plus you don't know when the hidden incentives will click into place if you are not seeing what people are offering. Your sales rep will call you if Lexus puts an extra few thousand on incentives on the car and offer you a better deal. If you like the 2013's, I am sure they will be discounting them as soon as the 2012 inventory is depleted.

Phillies if you are looking for a 2012 RX with a certain color, style and options than you might have to work fast, but if you are pretty much open to any color, style, options combination than you still might have time.

Its up to you. I don't want to tell you to wait, and you end up missing out on something/price that you wanted

I had every intention of getting a 2012, but couldn't find any in the area that had the color and features I wanted. Inventory is getting scarce. Local dealer is offering $2000 under invoice on what they have left, but I opted for a deal $325 under invoice for a 2013.

If Lexus offers dealer cash on the 2012's, this may swing the value equation back to the 2012's but for now, I think getting the 2013 is the best option. In my case, the cost was about $1700 more, but I get a newer model year (better resale value) and the new features (LED running lights, folding mirrors, Enform 2.0, new 19" rim design, etc.).

I believe AFS isnt on the 2013. Folding mirrors is available on 2012.

With that said if a buyer likes the new front and/or daytime running light ( which i love), and/or new colors and/or willing to pay for enform then go for it.

I agree 1700 isnt much if you love those things, but are you financing?

Because you could save a extra 2-4 k more if you are bc Lexus is offering 0.9 over 60 months (free money) on the 2012 RX.

It really depends on the buyer and if and how much they love the new bumper and options in reference with the increase in price.

SO now your talking about 3700 - 4700 price difference.

This would be so much easier for me if they up'd the hp to 300. Id be all in.
