Can you tint over the factory tint?
Does the factory tint need to be removed before applying tint to the rear windows?
I am planning on getting my fronts tinted and also want to go darker on the rears.
Thanks...

If by "factory" you mean that the dealership didn't already install window film, then yes. The privacy glass in the rear and the fronts can be tinted over.
All the vehicles on the lot here are tinted by the dealer (with film).

You can't remove the factory tint. The glass itself is tinted, its not a film. You can tint over it, a good tint shop will know how to do that and make it look uniform.

Thanks for all the posts. Indeed it does look like the glass is just colored... I suppose that's good news that I don't have to take anything off before putting the new tint on.

No factory tint is film, its all imbedded in the glass.

Tint done. Went with the SunTek CXP line. 33% (legal) in the front and 18% in the back. I also picked up the Lexus sunshade from Sewell. Looks good and it really does seem to make a difference here in the AZ sun!

:-) Thanks!
Too late for that! I bought used and it already had a few cosmetic issues when I got it.
