Default 2012 rx 350

I am considering purchasing a '12 RX 350. I'd appreciate comments regarding potential problems with these SUV's. I've read here about sludge problems on some engines and tranny problems. I have a '02 Mercedes CL500 and went into this car eyes wide shut only to later find out their reliability is lacking. I don't want to do this again.

Keep searching this board on the trans and sludge problems there is alot of info. I haven't heard of any of these issues on any of the RX350 models, you should be good to go. I have an 08RX350 with over 62K and have never had any problems with anything at all. You should be happy with the RX if you like it.

Welcome jud149. I moved your thread over to the 3rd gen forum since you're looking at the '12. Sludge was something found on the 1st gen when oil was not changed at proper intervals. Early 2nd gens had some tranny issues fixable through a reflash. There haven't been any engine issues on the 3rd gen. Both were not common though. If you peruse the other RX forums, you'll find several RXs with over 100K or even 200K. I see many of them on the road by me too. On all three of mine, I had very few problems outside of routine maintenance. It's kept me in the RX for the past 13 years. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the Lexus experience.

The only true attestation to how good a brand or model type is to look at how many OLD of the same model are on the road. With new model, changes happen and there is little reliability record. You then have to look at how the manufacturer has responded to problems in the past.

If you are very worried about out of pocket expense, you may think about extended warranty coverage. Buying extended coverage or not is another topic of discussion.

I don't believe sludge is a problem if you use synthetic oil.

I didnt have any slidge issues on our 2001. We used synthetic religiously. I was amazed how clean the oil was when it was due for a change.
