1,000 miles and in LOVE - but mpg question
Just passed 1,000 miles on my 450h and love love love this car! My question involves the average mpg since refueling, and the average mpg. My first couple of tanks, my avg since refueling was 28 to 29 mpg. But this most recent tank, and I've gone about 150 miles on it, I'm only getting 25 mpg. My driving style hasn't changed, and I'm using the same gas from the same dealer. It is a bit colder this week than it has been (maybe 15 to 20 degrees in NE Texas) - but is that enough to cause the drop? Had really anticipated getting the 28-32 as it was touted to get, but am content with what I'm getting after ditching my 16 mpg lemon. Another question - how do you utilize the average mpg (not the average since refueling)?

The average MPG (not since refueling) keeps registering unless you reset it using the button on the right side of steering wheel. To be competent with it as well as knowing when you want to change it in relation to the bar graph in the display you should also read the manual on that feature.
If your trips are 5-7 miles or shorter then cold weather will have a bigger impact. The batteries have to warm up as well to get the most from them. I get the same lower mpg in the winter if I go just 3 or 4 miles per start. Nothing wrong except cold. Your body probably needs warming up too when it cold .

You will find that your mileage might be higher or lower than normal for short distances, like 150 miles. It could be trip length (ie short trips), letting your car warm up a little longer .... or any one of many things. Some people have seen a decrease in mileage as gas stations switch from summer gas blends to winter blends. We won't be able to tell you why you are seeing lower numbers, but your numbers are in an expected normal range so don't worry. Just keep driving and you will develop a feel for how the car works and how to get optimal mileage.
