Can anyone tell me what voice tags are used for in navigation?

 

Voice tags is related to your phonebook. As I understand it, it a method of creating an alias for a contact in your phonebook using your voice. Here's an example: I wish to create a voice tag for my wife. I got to setup, pick phone, pick manage phonebook, pick create voice tag. I then navigate to my wife, Jane Doe, in the contact list. Then I push record and I say something like, "beloved wife" and save it.

Now I push the voice button on the steering wheel and say. "dial by name" and then "beloved wife" and the navigation system repeats my recording, "beloved wife" and pulls up all my beloved wife's numbers and I pick one and navigation dials the number.

Not sure that is any kind of time saving in the number of steps performed. So why bother, it's just as easy to "dial Jane Doe mobile".

Anybody else understand this differently?

Can you give a step by step how to setup a voice tag? I just purchased a 2009 RX350 and attempted to use the voice recognition feature but could not get it to work...?

I'm not familiar with the feature. Have you tried the steps listed in the manual? If you don't have a manual it is available on the Lexus Drivers site. See page 158:
