kwbuggy, thank you for taking the time to write Lexus and post their response. I appreciate it. Let me just add, caveat emptor.

Default 2011 RX 350 gas

When I talked to the dealer he said my RX 350 would take regular unleaded gas. Turns out, the book and the warning sticker on the gas cover say premium unleaded only. Is this the normal fuel for the 350? I have read about others using non-premium but I don't want to do that, I am just curious if I am missing something.

there are a lot of threads here that can help you make that decision.
It's simple, Fill up with what you're comfortable with.

i have a 2011 RX running on regular unleaded (87 octane).

I use 87 regular in my 2011. The 93 octane would be nice if racing, but for commuting and pleasure 87 is good enough. You have enough power that won't notice the 10-20HP reduction in normal driving.

I have a 2010 and was told regular unleaded is okay by dealer for 2010 and later. Oil changes every 10k.No more intermediate/major service recommendations. Just flushing of the brake fluids every 30k. This was the reason I went with 2010.

Smile 2012 87 octane re-tuned Engine

I just replaced my second RX and now on my third. 2008, 2010, 2012. I am a firm believer about premium fuel. Recently in the last couple of months I went from 93 octane to 87 and sometimes 89. I had approx. 35k on the car. Last week all of the lights went on telling me to check for AWD system, and other lights including check engine light. took it to Dealer and once checked it was a O2 sensor. It was under warranty so it was taken care of. I asked a service coordinator, could have it been the gas. He replied no. In my opinion i think it was the gas. (87 octane.) so now i see my sales guy and he says hey bud we have some sweet deals, and what do I say, I'll take it. LOL

Now that I have the 2012, dealer says don't waste your money on 93 octane you'll be wasting your money because lexus re-tuned to accept 87 octane. Is it not a good thing to use? what I call it, dirty gas.

Anyone with engine knowledge can you help me in this matter and/or question I would like to educate myself with this info.

Higher octane gas won't hurt the engine but different type of additive and brand might.

You don't gain anything by using a higher octane fuel then a car is designed for. The opposite, however, can be a problem. You can cause problems regularly using lower octane than a car is designed for. Octane and "dirty" have nothing to do with each other. They're two entirely different things.

Maybe you should read up instead of just believing. There's plenty of info out there. Google is your friend.

What does the owner manual suggest? Is it another Premium fuel recommended thing?
