RXSF, I'm so sorry to hear about your RX

Like everybody's saying, don't let the garage owner absolve himself of responsibility. Sounds like he's done it too many times before. There must be an agency that regulates garages in your area. I'd get in touch with them. In the meantime as hard as it must be, have your insurance company take care of the repairs and let them go after the garage owner for you.

Wishing your RX a speedy recovery.

Unfortunately I have felt your pain and I feel it now. So sorry, nothing like a factory paint job. In the end it doesn't really matter who pays because someone will, it's the fact that it happened in the first place. Obviously the garage has not learned from prior events.

Good Luck, not sure if I can look at the pics.

Ouch is right. The mirror is a piece of cake but the fender, another story. With the color being so new I am curious as to how it will work out. Keep us posted.

RXSF, sorry to hear about it, and I certainly feel your pain. just make sure you find a good body shop that has a good reputation in paint matching, and you should be ok.

If it is deep enough, they will replace your panel. That's what the shop did when I got hit at the door.

Quote: RXSF, sorry about the incident. How did the gate cause the scratches in two different directions? I am surprise Lexus use a light gray primer on a dark color car.
The rock chips on my obsidian black car look stark raving white!!

I'm guessing, don't really have clue, but do they do that to make sure they get good coverage when applying paint??? No likely with robots doing the painting. Course my chips maybe down to metal. Only the ones on plastic are black.

I was curious about the gate too. Metal roll-up or crossarm?

We have a gate like that at a local pvt airport-sign on both sides of gate--"Caution -gate closes fast for security. Airport not responsible for damage to cars"

I never dawdle.

However--our RX is 20 months old--nicks scratches all over now, esp front end, Guess there is not much one can do if actually using the car.

yeah the gate looks something like this:

and it swings from a hinge like a regular door. when it closed, my side mirror took the hit first and actually bent the opposite way. I have no real idea how it created the long line on my fender.

That's what I though happened, RXSF. Maybe there was some kind of latch on the gate that caught the fender. I'm surprised the side mirror stayed on.

I presume you are parking elsewhere?

That is just awful, I'm sooo sorry to hear about the damage to your baby. I won't complain about my passenger door ding I got this weekend from a damn minivan. I hope your baby gets fixed quickly and with a perfect job.
