I am considering a 2011 RX 450h AWD. The Lexus dealers in my area only seem to have the 450h with some combination of comfort, premium and/or nav packages.

My garage is quite narrow and I really want the power-folding side mirrors. According to my local Lexus dealer there aren't any with the Luxury package available in 'his region'. So it seems the only way to get this option is by special order.

For those of you who special ordered, how long did it take for your car to arrive? Did it take the 120 days? I am not sure I want to wait that long.

Ours wasn't special order per se (i.e. no power folding mirrors, HUD etc.) But we wanted Red with Nav and Premium which wasn't available at the time. Took about one month to arrive after ordering.

Bear in mind, the RX 450h is built in Japan, whereas most RX 350s (probably yours, too) are built in Canada, so delivery times may differ in these two cases.

also bear in mind that you just needed to find a color combination. The dealer did not need to contact the factory to make yours specifically because there were probably hundreds leaving the plant, or already left from the plant in your configuration but were destined for another region. Therefore, they just needed to swap one with another dealer or claim one that was on the way.

A good dealer would be willing to search other dealers for a matching vehicle and do a swap, obviously your's doesn't want to do that. Your other chance is going on cars.com and search online, some of the larger dealers (like Sewell) advertise their cars there. You might find one in their stock. You don't have to go through a local dealer.

My 450h was ordered September, came in January. The build date was November. It takes at least a month to make it to the east coast.

I heard from my dealership, Lexus would submit all special orders at the end of each month. So if you order on the 1st, it won't get process until the end of the month.

RX350 ordered 01/03/2011, picked it up today 02/11/2011. The dealer had a stock production slot that he used and replaced the stock order with my special order. I am very happy with the quick turn around. Was assembled in Canada.

Ordered my 2015 RX450h on April 7th, 2015, took delivery Friday August 14th, 2015. It took 17 weeks 3 days from signing the paper order and making a deposit, to taking delivery. Special ordering can be done. Sitting with a salesman allows for far more choices then the "BUILD" option on the Lexus website. I would recommend a custom order for a vehicle with an unusual combination of features, or to get "Exactly" what you want! I am VERY satisfied with my new car.
