Did anyone else test out their SUV in the big storm that came through this past weekend? We were in Richmond, VA and they only got about four inches of snow but they don't do a great job of clearing it and the people there don't do a good job of driving in it either! The RX in snow mode does very good in snow or slippery conditions. I was impressed with how easy it handles it.

 

Nope, I stayed home. NJ was under a state of emergency from Sunday night until Monday night. With 23" and blowing snow, it would have been ridiculous to attempt

i was out during the day in nyc for a bit, but i didn't try to navigate the streets after the storm. a range rover in my complex thought he would be bad *** and tried to head out before the streets were plowed. he didn't make it out of the garage.

 

I have the michelins on mine as well and I like Michelins. We came home to MD and there was nothing on the ground in the Baltimore area. I know you guys up north took a pounding. There is no good reason to go out when you are getting 18 inches of snow.

 

My 20-month old RX10 with Bridgestone-tyres seems to behave well these days. Very surprising. I am not quite in favor of this Active Torque Control AWD thing since I got some of serious skid/slippage during 2009 Dec and 2010 Feb snow. I told myself full-time AWD is my next only choice.

Anyway, I had to go out on Sunday noon. With a few inches of fresh snow, my RX cruised well. Around 5PM, a few more inches snow fell, I got another necessary trip for dinner in Manhattan, mine moved well in most of ocassions without slippage. It's confidently easy to manuover it on the trip between the garages of the restaurant and my Apt. Before arriving home around 9PM (SNOW mode), I had to stop my car twice to help move other cars away from the roads. My garage guy was surprised I brought the car back in one piece.

Monday - I was thinking to go to the office, but I was boxed up on the streets, helped them plow the snow before I could drive back to work from home. No problems to get out of the garage or return.

Although this is one of the worst snow ever in NYC, again, I'm surprised my RX went well these days. In some of snowy uphills or the slippery roads, I had to press the AWD button in order to firmly climb up or move ahead. Except I had to brake in a dozen of feet ahead of the stop, everything apparently worked well.

 

I drove mine through the snowy mess, we got hit with a little more than 2 feet. About 25 inches to be exact. Although I have a RX300, it still pulled through the snow like a beast, i helped pull 3 cars out of the snow, one of which was a BMW, it felt good. lol...
I'm used to driving in the snow though, as I also live in Michigan (well i go every other week and have a house there...lol so i consider that living there).

 

When pressing, it locks your AWD up to 24 MPH...

My RX10 early brochure showed "40 MPH"... LOL, this was one of the reasons I purchased this car...

 

it is not the one with the skid lines, that turns off traction control! lol

its the one next to the skid lines with the "lock"

 

yeah it is blanked out. There is no lock button on the hybrid for some reason, however snow mode pretty much locks in awd at least past 25mph on roads I tested the other day

 

Monday stayed home cleaning the driveway, and then went shopping on foot. Going over 20" of snow was a bad idea, and I'm glad I did not. Not only the problem would be getting through the snow, but I saw many cars left right in the middle of the street. Even a bus was stuck on the middle of the road, blocking the entire avenue. We had worse storms in my 18 years living in NYC, but the handling of it by the city gets F- in my book.

Tuesday, I got out from the driveway without a problem, and never once got stuck. Almost over with 'snow-mode' on, and driving on 2nd and 3rd gears. I wonder how many people on the road do the same, instead of going on D(rive) mode.

Always happens with ours when driving in snowy weather here in Canada. I sometime have to disable the radar cruise control, so I can at least use the ordinary cruise control. Never mind wiping snow dust off of the parking sensors lol.
