I tend to agree ... but they wouldn't wear out and seemed to be handling fine, not noisey. They had fairly good tread when I replaced them. Oh well ... I guess I was spoiled with that experience.

 

I had about 70-80 K with a set of Michelins on a AWD SUV before I traded the car in. This mileage was accumulated over a period of 7-8 years, and I was starting to worry about dry rot -

 

rick9194, don't get me wrong, I know Michelins are great. I put a set of non-OEM Michelins on the '99 that probably could have gotten close to 70k. I traded it in before I could find out. They looked brand new after 35k and were true SUV tires. But I tend to change my tires a few thousand miles before I have to, in the fall before the bad weather sets in. And I don't have them on for more than four years. Bottom line, tires are too important to me to take any chances, especially after the winter we just had.

 

How did the car drive with tires that old? I'd be nervous.

 

Anyone know when Lexus eliminated the 19" tire size on the RX?

According to their current models (2012) website, only 18" tires are available now.

 

They are available still from Lexus. My 450H came with them standard. Not sure whare you did not see them. They are on the web site.

The 19" tires still show up under options.

 

I have the Dunlop tires on my 2010 RX, and I've got over 21,000 miles on them. So far they're in good shape.

I had the Goodyear Eagles on my 2007 RX, and I got over 38,000 miles on those. I thought that was pretty good considering others complained about the Goodyears not getting past 20,000 to 25,000 miles on them.

 

I have just passed 41K on the OEM Dunlops. They gotta go! My 40K service last week showed inner rim wear, which means alignment issues to me. That will be fixed after the new tires are on.

So I'm scheduled next Friday to have them replaced with the Yokohama Parada Spec X 19" tires. Ordered from TireRack.com, with the Road hazard option. Out the door at $870, including shipping. Installation will be an additional ~ $100 at my local Big O tire shop.

I am REALLY looking forward to not having the Dunlops any more.

Please report back on the Yokohamas, Sandi. I'm considering them to replace my Dunlops.

 

Will you be getting the TPMS sensors replaced on each wheel at this tire change ? If so, assume that is an added cost.

Sandi, I think you'll like getting rid of the Dunlops. Look forward to your evaluation of the Yoko's.

 

As long as they can be reset and weren't damaged in the tire change you don't need to replace them. If they aren't reading (i.e. you get in the car and the little light is on) then you need to replace the faulty unit(s) Some folks will replace them no matter what citing safety concerns with an older set of sensors. I put 3 sets of tires on my ES without replacing the sensors and had no issues over a course of 75K miles.

 

The sensor batteries are rated for a life of between 5 - 12 years, with an average of 7 years. My '06 IS is coming up to six years old and no issues with the original sensors. They should be worry free for at least 5 years, and probably more.
