The RX may not be the sportiest SUV but it does have utility and functionality and many people do purchase the RX. Currently the RX is the highest selling Lexus model. The RX also outlived the Infiniti QX4. Here are the RX sales starting from inception:

1999-90,338
2000-89,864
2001-77,426
2002-72,963
2003-92,366
2004-106,531
2005-108,775
2006-108,348
2007-103,340
2008-84,181
YTD 6/2009-39,969

As you can see 2005 was the best year for the RX...and by the end of 2009 Lexus will have sold over one million RX's since inception in the United States alone...

Sorry folks for going off-topic here, I'll try to behave now.
Jim,

I had a very similar exchange with Mr. G Man about 5 or 6 months ago. I think he gets a high on negativism. It's almost like he feels better about himself if he is negative. Maybe I should have been a psychiatrist.

Your idea of negativism is anyone who point out anything wrong with any Lexus, sorry, but I do not drink your Lexus cool aid

from the peanut gallery--I have to wonder why a person who does not like the RX, does not have one and is not getting one is spending time posting on a Lexus board?

Just wondering.

btw--thats why there is chocolate, vanilla and strawberry and a bunch of other flavors.

Because this is a Lexus board. Although people who own and like Lexus will be the majority, this is a place as well for people who dislike Lexus to talk about their dislike of Lexus.

And in G Man's case he's a past (three time) Lexus owner. Why should a forum be limited to only current owners. I'm sure there are people who don't own a Lexus but maybe want a Lexus that are on these boards.

Thank You RX300-BV, I just sold my GS 6 months ago and might be looking into buying another Lexus soon once quality improves. I do not feel I need to justify why I spend time on this forum, but I think having owned Lexus for the last ten years gives me the right to be here.

I do not understand it when some members want only to hear the good about our cars. We are talking about cars for god sake! This is not a Friday night high school football game. I think some people must buy their cars for needs beyond transportation. Perhaps for those people we should start a forum entitled "Lexus Groupies" or "Lexus Cheerleaders".
"The G Man" has every right to be here and has been a great source of information for me.

There is no problem lurking on the forum, talking nonsense and stuff. What I find annoying is someone talking how non-sporty RX is and how RX has no soul, etc. I drive RX daily since April. I am 34.9 yo male and I drive pretty aggressively on the road, alot more than an average driver, although I do not drag race or go above 70 (anymore). This includes making quick lane changes (AND USING THE TURN SIGNALS), taking the ramp curve at 60 mph, instead of 30 mph, leave the traffic light in a first row, making sharp turns, but avoiding hard breaks. Anyway, you get the picture. Before RX, I drove Acura MDX 01 and 05 models. Overall, I'd say, S dominates my driving in SUV, and I find RX a good fit. Acceleration ok (once the learning tranny gets used to be pushed hard), RX fills solid on the highway, and at high speeds, no rattles going over the bumps, etc. I'd feel comfortable taking it to 100 mph without a problem, while in MDX, I did not push it past 90. Day-by-day, it ends up being a fun drive. Recently, X5 3.0 tried being fisty and "sporty"... and failed. I'm not drag racing, just making a point. Just like I'm trying to make a point to papa G Man that RX is more sporty than he will ever need.

An RX at 100 mph is little more than a runaway vehicle. I like our RX but it, like most other SUV's, is not a vehicle I would want to be in at 100 mph.

I don't think US highways will ever turn into autobahns, so its not practical (and could be costly). RX feels solid at high speeds. That's all.

I have gone to 155 mph a few years back in Germany, but that was in BMW 320tdi.

Our roads, our cars, and most of all our drivers are not prepared for a US version of the autobahn. For the most part we are a nation of unskilled drivers because we hand out license as if it's a right and not a privilege. There is much more to driving at higher speeds that what "feels" good. In reality my RX at high speeds is a death trap; it is not designed for high speeds or wild lane changes. It's designed for comfort at legal speed limits.

I used to remember that Montana, in about '97, before or after, the speed limit was like "reasonable and prudent". Many ppl drove cars like doing on the autobahns. Friends said to me, ppl, especially those from NE, loved speeding here... not any more these years.

* I kind of agreed with DNC. US is not ready for this, neither roads or ppl are capable of having this package.

* in autobahns, it's quite interesting to see those high-speeding vehicles passing you... unbelievable!!
