This could be possible if the original poster leased his 08RX. My saleswoman told me to come back in after I'd had the car for 30 months (of a 36 month lease) and she would try to put us into a new RX lease for $0 down and the same payment. Of course, I then have another three years of lease payments on the new car, which this poster would have as well. I didnt believe her, but then again I dont believe anything they say.

Its the same thing as trading a leased car in for another leased car. If the car is worth more than the payoff amount on the lease, you've got equity you can apply towards the new car.

Seems like a good deal if its available though, I dont think SUVs are selling well, and so trade in values are terrible right now.

And you walked out and posted that question on ClubLexus? Hmmm Not sure if it's you or the salesman, but something smells fishy....(:

i'm thinking he got his "K" confused.
1K = $1000 not $10,000!
If the offer was $20,000 it would be more reasonable. And if that is the case it would still be a pretty good deal.

If it is like someone else said , leased, then $2K is still an OK deal.

there's no way in hell that's possible for a dealer to do!!!there's gotta be a catch..but, if he does this, then you got to give me his name and the dealership he works in..

Some of you questioned why I didn't take the deal rightaway. Well, I was not in the market to trade but only to see and drive the new RX at the time. So his "offer" just went over my head at the time and I really didn't think too much of it until that evening and decided to post the message to get your input.

When I called him yesterday whether he was still on with the deal he told me he would double check with the sales mgr and would also pull up my folder to confirm the exact equipment I have. He called back and said he was mistaken that he thought my RX was a 2009 however he and the sales mgr would be willing to work with me on my 08RX. I said, "If not $2k, then how much extra?". "Well, you really need to come in and we'll talk". I told him I wasn't going to waste my time going in to the dealership unless I could get some "ballpark" number. He finally gave in and said "this is really rough now but probably $8k extra. The sales mgr will need to determine the final number".

In light of this "revised" deal, what do you all think?

^^ are we talking outright purchase or there is a lease -> early_return -> new Lease.

If we are talking lease, the terms may make a difference. If we are talking purchase, I would take it.

Salim

PS/Add-on: I think your sales person is trying to generate some interest and you may be inadvertently perpetuating it.

No lease. Just outright purchase. Also the salesman said currently there's no factory incentive nor any special financing deal on the new RX.

You bought your RX last April, that would make it about a year old. $8000 is about right for a one year old car. Rather if thats a good deal or not, that depends on how much you like the new RX and how much discount you got on your old RX.

It's a '08 model,G.
It's got to be more than $8K.
My '09 would be $8K.

Even a new on-the-lot '08 hybrid won't get you within 8k of a 2010 model due to the current massive '08 and '09 incentives. Sounds too good to be true.

Time wise, his RX is only 11 months old. Lexus did compress the last 3 model years of the RX. While some manufacturers just came out with their 09 line up last months, Lexus already jump to 2010 on the RX.

The '10 may be 4k or so overpriced as you would get it at MSRP. {my guess**

You also would pay tax on 8k (the difference) {this is to your advantage**

Depreciation on your 2yr (model) and the milage is 8k {this is a difficult thing to establish ... only you can determine it based on the price you paid .. seems very much in your favor**

Now when you get to nitty gritty make sure they dont jack the number up.

Sanity Check: 3 yrs from now you should be 8k better (milage + model).. this is how I come to the conclusion that it is good deal.

Salim.

If he is saying "roughly" 8K, then maybe you can get him down a little more. I think it's still a good deal, especially if your previous RX was discounted. Good luck!!
