Rx stereo amp replacement
Hey guys, the stereo on my rx350 I failing(sometimes works sometimes doesn’t) and after doing some research have decided it’s due to the amp being on its way out. I’m searching for used replacement amps and the particular one I’m looking for is on the pricier side. I’m wondering if I can get away with using one with a different serial number? The serial number for mine is 86100-0E070 but wondering if I could use a 86100-0E060 or a 0E100? The amp looks exactly the same and is from the exact same vehicle but not 100% sure if I will either loose features or it just won’t work altogether. Does anyone have any experience doing these types of swaps and what was your experience like?
What year is your RX? I assume you have navigation.

You may find used ones at places described in the link, or eBay. Also at http://www.rancholexusrecycling.com/invent.htm

I'd say get the exact amp if you can. Even if all the speaker outputs and number of channels etc are the same, all of the factory amps are specific to the car's head unit and are "tuned to the car" i.e. they have their own built-in crossovers for each channel so you may have some weird audio even if the thing does start up and work - and that's at best. I went through the same thing on my 2008 RX350 recently, and decided to just bypass the stock amp entirely and run a small standalone Pioneer class D amp in the stock location with a harness I made that is plug & play
If you can get the amp for cheap and it's no loss if it doesn't work out, I'd still say it's worth getting a 2-day TIS subscription so you can compare the wiring diagrams of the two different trim levels and see if the amps are properly compatible and won't blow anything up if you plug 'em in

You should see this thread with regard to the symptoms of the system working intermittently as it can be caused by a loose cable connection. This cable is under the center console area and the linked thread below plus the threads it links will explain this further. It is something you should check out before ordering a new amplifier.
