Installing Dashcam on RX350 2011
Hello,
I want to install a dashcam right behind/or to the right of the rear view mirror, however running into issues with powering the camera. I am wondering if anyone else was successful in installing it.
I want to install it myself without going to a shop/dealer so my questions are:
1. Outside of a hardwire solution are there any other power connections available near the windshield? For example the rear view/detector assembly should have a power supply so maybe its possible to wire the camera into there? Some of the later RX models apparently do have something like this.
2. Are there any other cigarette lighter ports outside of the 1 under the central island and 1 in the middle storage compartment?
3. If anyone was able to wire it, what would be the best way to not reduce vision/prevent wires tangling everywhere?
So far the only solution I have come up with is leading the wire above the windshield, along the door and under the glove compartment to the port under the central island.
Sorry for a long post but I would appreciate any help with it.
Thanks.

Welcome to CL. Now is the time to learn that almost everything you want to ask about has been discussed many times already on these aging vehicles. The search box on the right side of the page is easy to use. I just searched dashcam and found these threads that should help you. get started but there are many more if you want to run the search yourself. Good luck on the install.

Thank you so much for those. Seems like a thing that a lot of other people have encountered. But its kinda unfortunate that there is no simple power plug up there.
I am not sure if I am confident in my electronic skills to wire it that way as it requires soldering and connecting a lot of the wire assemblies. And not sure I would trust even mechanics to do it that way.
I will take a look at the other threads to maybe find a simpler solution that wont be as invasive, or maybe someone who has personally installed one would reply.

Consult with some car audio and security shops as this is the type of thing they install all the time on many different vehicles. Get a few estimates. This vehicle wiring is similar to most Toyota vehicles.
