Default RX330 similarities with Highlander

Just wondering how much similarities exist between my RX330 and the 2003 Toyota Highlander.

1. I know that the engine displacement is a bit bigger, but are they basically the same engines?

2. How about the drive train (transmission, etc) as well as the suspension, are they same as the Highlander's?

I am VERY happy that I bought the RX330 (wasn't even considering the Highlander). However, if they are in fact mechanically similar, how about having a Toyota Dealership servicing the Lexus? Similar thoughts anyone?

they highlander and the rx300/330 are quite different. if you get used to the RX and take a ride in the Highlander, you might be disappointed with the lack of amenities in the Highlander. namely (in the highlander):

- headrests (esp. back row) are very hard and not comfy
- gauge panel/display cheap and dark

other than that, the highlander actually had (has?) a tighter turning radius than the RX300, and i'm convinced the suspension between the two are different. You paid more money for your RX than a highlander, and there is a good reason for it. However, the highlander isn't a bad car either.

Default Highlander

Actually, the 2004 Highlander will have the SAME engine and five speed automatic transmission that is standard on the RX330. They are built on similar platforms, but the RX330 has much more attention paid to NVH, especially in the wind noise category. The 330 has more amenities and technological gadgets but the Highlander gets a third row seat at the end of this year while the 330 has to make do with two rows.

The 2004 slightly updated Highlander would be the better comparision to the RX330, since it's using the same engine and has a host of new features (still being several thousand less than a RX330).

I kind of like the squared off Highlander look. It's a decent looking truck. Other than that you can get mostly all the same features as in a RX330 (Nav, Rear Entertainment System, etc..), however not as luxurious.

I did notice that the Highlander's accessories include running boards and fender flares (link below):

I think due to the Highlander's squared off look, these accessories would make the Highlander an even better looking vehicle. I was also thinking running boards for my RX330, however people tell me that it takes away from the curvy lines of the RX. This is still up for debate.
