Disable HVAC Air Conditioning Servo

Hi all,

First time posting - apologies if this has already been answered, but I couldn’t find a straight answer on this one.

One of the HVAC servos on the driver’s side is hunting (clicking loudly), and has been getting worse over the past six months or so.

I pulled what I thought was the culprit, only to find that the noise was still occurring. From what I can see, there are two on the driver’s side, and the one making the noise is the upper unit. Unfortunately, it’s almost impossible to reach without pulling the dashboard apart.

Question is: Can I pull the plug / cut the wires on the unit without it drastically affecting any systems?

The reason I ask, is because the air conditioning appeared to work fine without the lower servo, and the upper servo appears to be malfunctioning, so I’m wondering how much use they really are.

I’ll pull the car apart if I have to, but I’d really rather not waste a weekend cursing over plastic panels not coming out!

Mode Damper Servo(driver side):- mode changes Face or Defrost.
Air Mix Servo(driver side): hot or cold temp control for driver side.
