I'm really hoping that someone sees this and knows what happened. So here is what happened:
I upgraded my iSimple auxiliary input adapter today to another model on my 08 Rx-350. The only thing I needed to do was to run the mic cable for the new unit, swap the old module, connect everything and crank it up. Basically plug and play. Because my original audio installer hid this equipment in an access panel, I didn't have to pull the head unit. The only thing I can think of was I stuck a screwdriver into the cigarette lighter port which is in the lower accessory tray underneath the dash dead center. I may have shorted out something as I did detect an electrical smell. I intended to turn that into a USB port.
1. The factory screen says Audio Off when the button below the screen that says "audio" is selected and radio is on.
2. All other screens/buttons (map, info, etc) work fine
3. I noticed that the buttons no longer make an audible beep. There is an option to silence that but I've never had it on so you hear the beep when you select.
4. My new iSimple device seems to work well and I have satellite radio as before.
Does anyone know what drives the screen function? I don't think fuse. Would disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 20 minutes or so help anything? I don't think the system is fried but something happening but I have zero idea where to look.
I'd start at where you mentioned 'shorted something out'' & the ''electrical smell''...Possibly have the original audio installer deal w/ it.
Thanks for the reply. I really appreciate it. The installer is long gone but definitely need to have a car audio expert look at it. It may be something as simple as a fuse or relay. I hope. Anyone who knows the iSimple devices I would also love to hear from. I am not getting phone to ring thru the system and steering wheel controls don't seem to work. It's all tied to this issue I guess.
