Default Poor trim workmanship In our RX

Gang

My 04 only has 65K and today I see the driver’s
mirrior trim paint peeling off and my rear spoiler
also suffering similar issues.

WTH ? Never would imagined this could be happening
in a Toyota/Lexus ? I also don’t live in a hot climate
state ( Northern California)

Do you guys have the same issues ? Hate to pay $400-
$800 to replace these parts that should have never be
going bad

What are you guys doing with your RX ?
I wondered if I can just replace the window
trim piece without replacing the entire driver’s mirror?

Have you guys try to get Lexus to help with any goodwill
assistsnce ? Or did you replace or repainted the defective
piece?

I haven't had any similar issues with my RX330. However, I keep it garaged all year long.

That being said, it's a 15 year old car. Some of the paint will fade or start peeling off. I'm used to seeing much worst on domestic cars and Honda - especially along the hood and the roof.

If you want to you ask around a local body shop if they can do a repaint - probably shouldn't cost more than a few hundred dollars for them to touch up the paint.

If you are mechanically inclined that mirror detaches at the pivot and from the glass inside, most likley with 2-3 screws. Should be a not too bad project for a weekend warrior. You could also consider bolting on replacement mirrors. As for poor quility trim, the RX goes through a zinc bath submersion pre paint, which is why it is highly rust resistant, unless original paint has been damaged or exposed to excessive road salt or bird droppings. If you ever have the ability to tour the factory, you will be in awe of the finesse and attention to detail at time of build. I live 12 miles from the award winning Cambridge, Ontario RX factory which competes head to head with the sister plant in Japan. If your VIN start s with J it was Japan built, if 2T2 it is Cambridge built. Equal pride, equal quality.

Guys

Don’t get me wrong. I still love my Rx. I owned both
a RX 300 and a RX330.

it is just a bit disappointing when the rear spoiler is faded
and the driver’s mirror trim, rear Q trim is peeling
and falling off.

both of my RX are in mint condition and I am going
To repaint the spoiler and reflglue the rear Q trim

Both RX have been solid and reliable
