I have a 2008 RX350. After my trunk lid opens and i craw inside to get my items, occasionally it decides it wants to close on its own giving me seconds to pull out of the way. The warning bell goes off, but it is generally not enough time to just barely get my head out of the car. What is happening?

Reason: SPELLING
On some of my cars, if it was locked when I opened hatch, it will decide to shut it after a while, but if I first unlock all doors, it doesn't do that. Forget how the Lexus works, daughter has it now...
I contacted my repairman and he said the same thing. He has ordered new struts. That makes sense because it also like to close when I first open it and sometimes I have to try and open it several times. Thank you for responding to my problem.
Yes it is the bum struts. Happens frequently on winter days. Time to replace them. Dangerous too. While servicing my RX330, checking fluids the hood fell on my head, no blood but sure scared the hell out of me. Ordered the strut, came in 2 days, done! I would recommend that this be a replacement part when you car gets to 10 years old. They are $20 per, a cheap insurance.
I contacted my repair shop (whom I have a great deal of faith in) and they agreed. However, they did not recommend the Lexus struts as they felt they were not as good, but they shot me a bill for $184.00. I have no faith in our Lexus service department. They also said the struts they buy are half the cost. I assume you did install yours. Does that seem unreasonable to you when they are installing them also?
They are about $25 per. Easy to replace, fairly simple. As a note and caution, you will need a piece of wood to support the hood or the tailgate so you can relieve the pressure. Other than that, and if you safe, it is an easy DIY. You will need another pair of hands to place the wood that will hold the hood or RR Latch.
OEM versus Aftermarket Hood struts, for the price it is a no brainer, go with aftermarket.
