Driver AND passenger side air vent cupholder, succes! :)
I've read about a few people that played with the idea to have an extra cupholder below the vent on the passenger side, but didn't find any threads that actually performed this operation.
Yes, it's an operation
I ordered the cupholder from ebay from a British seller.
It came well wrapped and in a new like condition.
Step 1:
Remove the glovebox. There are enough tutorials online about that
Step 2: gently pull off the air vent face. It's only clipped in at the right side bottom and at the very bottom (in the middle).
3. Pull out the air vent. It's held in place by two plastic retainers on the left side. Just push the air vent to the right and you can see them (and unclip them with a screwdriver or plastic spudger)
4. Start cutting!
The bottom plastic bit has got to go. Just the part where you clip in the cupholder needs to stay.
I was constantly fitting and cutting (that why the glove box is in place).
Below the part where the air vent clips in (the rectangle bit) I had to remove even more, since the cupholder is shaped a bit differently.
5. unclip the large cable tube and push it to the left. There is enough room for it to sit between the cupholder mechanism and glovebox. It won't rattle because it's quite stiff.
It's clipped to the metal tube behind it. You can just gently pull it lose.
6. slide in the air vent WITH cupholder.
I pushed it back a little more to be flush with the dash.
It's like factory now

A few years back, I found the other threads where this idea was batted around, but just now found this one where it's actually been done. Would you mind sharing your source for the part?

We just use the cupholders in the console, never used the driverside cupholder.....
