Low refrigerant can cause this because there is not enough R134a to cool the entire evaporator, so depending on air flow to vents relative to the evaporator, different temps per vent.
As cars get older they leak a little R134a, so if it has not been checked lately, its time.

Because the car has the feature to have the air temperature different for the driver and passenger, there is a printed circuit board controller for this. There have been threads about this going bad. Search for this.

Probably a leak in the AC system gasket. If the A/C blows cold only on one side, I would image the AC unit is workling fine but there is probably a blockage or a leak on whichever side doesn't blow cold.
