Default 2004 lexus RX330 Tail Light

Hi, im so confused so i hope someone can help answer my question. I'll try to be as detailed as possible.

So my drivers side tail light is out. NOT the one on the lift gate, but the outter one.
But when I press on the brake it lights up, how and why is it doing that??
Doesn't it have only one bulb?? And if so, is it an LED bulb or 168??
There is so much conflicting information out there. Help!

Thank you for that! So from what I can see there are 2 different bulbs?? Are they both LED, because I keep reading that the brake lights are LEDs?

In the diagram the tail light is labeled #9. It is 5 watt #168 bulb according to the owners manual. The light labeled #10 is the turn signal, the owners manual says it is 21 watts but does not give a bulb type.

The brake light is an led assembly. In the diagram it is labeled #7 and called "Body" for reasons only known to Lexus.

This link shows the panel you need to remove to access the tail light. You should be able to replace the bulb once you remove the panel.
