Rear Gate Switch Cover
This has been slow in happening but it has pretty much finally deteriorated.
Anyone have this issue with the rubber cover of the rear gate switch.
If so. Is this a DIY fix or expensive dealer fix.
Thanks

Lexus does not sell the rubber part by itself. You have to buy the complete switch from Lexus. The switch is around $65 list price for NAP cars (# 84840-08010), Around $73 for Japan built (# 84840-21010). Labor is at least $100 because you have to take off the rear hatch inside trim panel.

You could also buy the switch and just swap the rubber piece - 2 screws and some cleaning of old gooey plastic.
Or you could but just the rubber piece off of ebay:
$10 - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Trunk-Hatch-...3D111958177037
$13.5 - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Trunk-Hatch-...3D111958177037

What a mess!
Ordered one of those rubber pieces from ebay, cleaned the goop ("good enough") and then installed it. Took about 1/2 hour. (Most time spent cleaning up goop ) Pretty much good as new now.
It was helpful to have a screwdriver with bends for installation.
