Alignment Issue - Depressed & Impressed
 

Noticed my brand new RX 330 was drifting slightly to the right so I took it to my dealer yesterday - they told me they didn't have the alignement software for the 330 yet, but they'd call me when they got it in (depressed) - well they called LAST NIGHT - apparently they got it in pretty quick! (impressed) So I brought it back in today, left it with 'em, took a loaner and went about my business - well I just got an update :( turns out my 330 needs some alignment bolts - and GUESS WHAT?! they don't have those new fangled bolts in - and won't get em in for a week or two - the service technician is worried it may cause un-neccessary wear on one of my tires - (depressed) so they gave me the option: I can either leave my REX with them until they get the bolts and drive a loaner, or (and this is why I love Lexus) I can drive my car until they get 'em in, then if there's wear on my tire they'll replace it with a brand new one (impressed) - I'll keep y'all posted with any further developments

Sounds like at least they gave you a couple of viable options. Let us know how you make out.

update - picked up my REX tonight and noticed slight scratches in the lugnut wells on my polished graphite wheels - where they used their lugnut wrench to remove the lugs - should I complain?

I would if they are pretty obvious - if they are very slight scratches, maybe they could buff them out. If not and they bother you, then they should have them repainted or replace them.

During a winter tire changeover two years ago, a local tire shop damaged one of my wheels - it was more than a slight scratch, and so they offered to buy me a new one. Instead, I had them try to touch them up first, and they did a very poor job, and I wish I would have chosen their replacment offer instead.

You can't rely on anyone nowadays...if something bad is bound to happen, it happens to me....I took one of my impact sockets that fit my wheels and I cut out a piece of thin rubber gasket material and glued it to the outside of the socket. Whenever anyone, including myself, touches the lug nuts they use this socket. I had to do this way back in 1973 when garages used impact wrenches on my Mustang's S/S Chrome Cragars. Keep the socket in your vehicle with the tire tools.

took my IS in to the dealer today for my complimentary car wash - and I mentioned the RX wheel scratch issue to the service tech and at first he said it's near impossible to avoid scratching the lug wells cause they're so tight - then after I gave him "a look" and told him that I've only had the RX for 5 days - he said they'll try to buff them out next time they take the wheels off and they'll do whatever it takes to make me happy - DARN RIGHT!
