2009 RX 350 Oil Cooler Leak
New here. I've been googling all day, but haven't found an answer. So here's the issue. My 2009 RX 350 with 205,000 miles on it started hemorrhaging oil yesterday. I've found that a few years ago Lexus had a service campaign to fix the issue. I bought this vehicle 2 years ago from my wife's employer and they hit every service interval. I have reviewed the service records and I found where an SSC 9LH service was performed on it which appears to be in response to the service campaign. HOWEVER, it appears from what I've gleaned from the report and the web, that this service just replaced a hose. When I called Lexus today, they tell me the part is now all steel. Could it be that the initial hose fix was the improper action? Was there a second campaign to correct the hose issue?
Now I'm not 100% sure this is the issue. It will be diagnosed tomorrow, but the oil is coming from the area where this oil cooler hose is located, and when compared to other stories, it mirrors those accounts.
Anyway, any help or comments on this would be appreciated.

Welcome to clublexus,
There are two known oil line failures with the 2nd gen RX350's. one is the VVT line oil leak, the other is another oil cooler not related to the VVT. from my understanding both were rubber parts that were then replaced with metal. My 07 spewed oil back in 2010 due to the VVT line and was replaced with the updated part with no damage to the engine. The other oil line hasn't been replaced yet and is still the original, but i plan on taking it in soon.

Thank you. I just found out that the failure was the oil cooler hose. This is one of two black rubber hoses running between two triangular flanges. You are right that it is now a metal part. My service records indicate that in 2011, the dealer replaced "a" hose in response to the campaign, but he replaced it with another hose. To me, that's like replacing a flat tire with a flat tire (granted the new hose MAY have been some exotic durable rubber). So I am wondering if I can find the exact directions given by Lexus on how to address the issue under the campaign. I'm wondering if the dealer just slapped on a hose, then charged Lexus for the correct metal part and pocketed the difference.

Here is the thread for the oil cooler hose:

In the US, Lexus' response to the problem was a warranty enhancement program. If the hose leaks they will replace it. My dealer would not replace the oil cooler hose if it wasn't leaking. It is not a recall like the VVT hose replacement program.
