Default 07 RX 400h Horn Intermittent

Hi. I just purchased the car a few weeks ago. Horn doesn't work till I press about a dozen times and "get lucky".. Once it hits once I can usually beep about 4 times before losing it.
I checked the fuse, looks fine. Haven't found the relay yet.

I suspect it is something in the switching/contacts/ground in the steering column. I've googled and searched the forums without any luck. I did see where somebody had taken to stealership for a $700 repair. (ouch).

Any ideas what I may need to replace in steering column?
I know have to be careful because of airbag so any info on safe disassemble would be helpful too..

Thanks,
John

I popped off a plastic around the cruise control, and see one torq bolt there.
Do not see any access on other side?

After i popped off gave it a slight mouth blow in there, and the horn actually started working decent for awhile.

Thinking maybe blowing in there with some compressed air. Then maybe spraying contact cleaner up in there. But really would like to figure out how to take the airbag assembly off so I can get to the contacts.

Any suggestions here? This one is my moms, and I don't want to give it to her without the horn working

John.

John.
We generally don't recommend DIY involving airbags. Accidentally setting one off is a huge expense. In any event if you choose to do it anyway, disconnect the battery and wait 30 minutes to proceed.

Thxs. I have read a lot more and have seen that mentioned each time.

I am now pretty sure I need to replace the clock spring. Still having trouble finding RX specific instructions. Have seen other models doesn't look too difficult to replace. Seeing a huge range of pricing for a replacement.:/
