Default Power Steering Fluid Cover Fastener DIY

While removing the big black PS fluid cover I ended up breaking 3 of the 4 plastic fasteners that hold it on. Rather than zip-tie it back down or get new plastic fasteners, I wanted something that would be secure but easily removable with no hand tools, and more robust than plastic.

Below is what I came up. Total cost for all parts (from Lowes) was about $7.00. I did have to ream out the four mounting holes with a 3/8 inch drill bit to get the right fit with the well nuts.

Smile Great Idea - Just Did to Mine!

This is a fantastic fix to a bad design. I went to my local hardware and bought all of the parts mentioned and mine came out great! Thanks for posting!!!

Nice! Never had problems with the plastic fasteners myself aside from losing one and $7 will cover several replacements if one decides to go that route.

I ordered a bag of 20 on e-bay from China for 3.99. When they finally came they were little pieces of hard plastic junk which won't fit that well. I gave a negative rating, got a e-mail from the vendor asking to change my rating and he would refund my money. That's called a bribe and for 4 lousy dollars the rating stands. You can buy them from the dealer for about 2.00 each. Sometimes it is worth the wait but not in this case. The push pins were junk.
