Default Sunroof randomly opening

Okay Lexus gurus, I have one for you. My Mom has an '04 RX330, and the other day the sunroof randomly opened, and she closed it with the button with no problem. For the last 3 days, this has occurred randomly (opening only - all closing is by her) and all occurrences are when she is driving (not parked).

I told her to wrap the fob in foil today to remove that connectivity and to see if the fob is to blame. We will replace those batteries anyway as I don't know that they have ever been replaced.

Any other ideas or comments are very welcome. Is this a known issue? The Lexus service adviser had not heard of this problem when I called this morning.

Thanks in advance & happy Turkey Day!

My ISF used to do that occasionally too. Try tilting and opening the moonroof all the way and half way. See if this works for you as well.

Here's a thread from back in the day.

I would disconnect the battery for 10 minutes then run through the sunroof reset procedure.

Thanks for the tips! I changed the batteries in both key fobs, but I wasn't able to do the reset procedure (holding the sunroof buttons down per the instruction manual) as they would not go through the procedure. But she drove it an hour and a half yesterday with no sunroof issues, so maybe the batteries needed to be changed. Fingers crossed for now.

You have to disconnect the car battery (not remote batteries) before the sunroof reset procedure will work.
