Default Summer tire recommendation?

Hi there,

I'm new to this forum, and was wondering if somebody could recommend a summer tire for a 2008 400h, to be used only in summer as we have a separate set of winter tires. We use the SUV for driving around the city and long trips on highways/interstates, and would like a quiet, soft ride if possible. OEM tire size is 235/55-18, and I plan to purchase them from Tire Rack in the U.S.

Thanks!

I ws trying to find the same thing, i.e. a 'summer' tire, but they all are - to a larger or lesser extent - 'all-season' tires. If you search this forum, you will see many posts concerning tires and their respective deemed advantages or faults, and tire rack itself has a pretty good ranking system, which is easy to consult, as well as reviews from drivers who purchased the tires. Easy search, certainly worth it.

Summer only tires are usually high performance and thus noisy, not low rolling resistance and don't last as long. The summer only tires on my BMW actually have a warning on them not to drive them when weather is below 40 degrees.

The quietest tire I found was the stock Michelin Energy S8 but I don't like them because they wear out fast. I am currently using the Michelin Latitude Tour which is lasting much longer and is just as quite. It has an M&S rating and did great in the snow when they were newer.

Great - thanks! Looks like it's best that I stick to all-seasons, and will check out the Michelin Latitude Tours.

I agree with Smassey...When I lived in Arizona I would just buy summer tires since it only rained a few days each year and the temperature never got below 30. They would wear out in about a year - year and a half. It was kind of a pain to get them replaced so often but they handled so well!
